OROVILLE, Calif. - The "Ready, Set, Bloom! Downtown Oroville Sale" was held Friday in Oroville, celebrating local businesses and offering spring deals.

The event featured 2 ribbon cuttings for new businesses in Oroville.

Officials say that the Ready Set Bloom event was designed to bring people into downtown and highlight local businesses.

Miss Zee's Kitchen, a family-style soul and seafood restaurant, and Feather River Trading Post, a thrift and consignment shop with a mix of new, used, vintage and antique items, both held grand openings.

Several shops offered spring sales, discounts and special promotions throughout the evening. Action News Now Reporter Emilio Del Carpio spoke with business owners about the event.

"We're doing all kinds of fun stuff downtown. I'm really happy to be involved, but this is our first event here, we just opened in January so it's going to be our first full event being involved with downtown. I'm really stoked," said Fawn Marc, owner of Guilded Needle. "I think it's great being involved in a community that wants to do things as a unit and not be so individualistic, we really come together when it is necessary."

The event also featured a family-friendly atmosphere with live music, food and activities like scavenger hunts and games for kids happening throughout the area.

Charlene Vargas, who owns the Feather River Trading Post in Oroville, shared what inspired her to open the business.

"Well, Feather River Trading Post an idea that I've always had as a child. Of having used things but nice things where you can get them at a good price," Vargas said.

Action News Now then asked Vargas if fellow business owners had been supportive of her and her grand opening. "Very supportive, very supportive. They've been coming in spreading the word that I was opening and everything else," Vargas said.

There was a lot of foot traffic up and down Myers and Montgomery. Shoppers told Action News Now it was a great chance to explore, shop, dine and connect with the heart of downtown.

The event ran from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday night, and there were no street closures associated with the event.
