CHICO, Calif. - A Chico woman disappeared without a trace 38 years ago, and investigators still suspect foul play in her case.
Judy Eileen Smith was last seen on the Esplanade, near Seventh Avenue in Chico on Nov. 3, 1988. She may have been on her way to Quincy or to a job in Oroville.
Smith was 26 years old at the time of her disappearance. She stood 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighed 160 pounds.
She had brown hair and brown eyes. Smith was wearing a T-shirt, jeans and a gold necklace with the initial "J."
Smith left behind all her clothing, her makeup and her purse. It was uncharacteristic of her to leave without warning.
Her roommate reported her missing 6 days later. Investigators suspect foul play in her case.
